Surah Lail (Arabic text: الليل), english meaning ”the Night” is also known as Surah Wal Laili Iza Yaghsha (وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰ). It is 92nd chapter of the Quran, has 21 ayaat (verses). It was revealed in the holy city of Makkah. The surat is found in juz / paara 30. Surah e lail addressed the crucial theme of deeds—both virtuous and sinful . It explores the roots of these actions, examining the beliefs that drive them and their outcomes in the Hereafter. Its content is closely related to that of the preceding Surah, Ash-Shams. The chapter also states that God helps believers perform good deeds, while it is more challenging for disbelievers to do so.

The main themes of this Surah are:

Following is the main theme of the this surah

  • The differences in deeds between the righteous and the wicked
  • The rewards and punishments in the next life based on one’s deeds in this life

Comfort and Ease

(7)فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ

We shall surely ease him into facility.

The easing into facility mentioned in Surah Lail can have two possible meanings:

That God will provide the giver of charity with the abovementioned attributes the success and grace of performing good actions and make the performance of such actions easy for him/her so that he/she finds no difficulties in their performance.

Or, that God will prepare him/her for a happy and prosperous life besides his Lord, i.e. a Heavenly life and helps him prepare by giving him/her the grace and success of performing good actions.

It seems that this second meaning conforms more to the promises in the Quran.
