Salatul Tasbih (صلاة تسبيح), also called the supplication prayer, is a sunnah prayer. It involves reciting the tasbih multiple times. Performing Salat ul Tasbeeh is believed to result in the forgiveness of many sins.
Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said to his uncle, Abbas (RA):
“Oh Uncle, shall I not give you, grant you, award you, and show mercy on you? When you do ten things, Allah will forgive your sins, past and future, new and old, forgotten and known, big and small, hidden and revealed.”
He then taught him how to pray Salat Tasbeeh and advised offering it once a day. If not daily, then every Friday. If that’s not possible, then once a month. And if even that is not possible, then once a year. And if that’s not possible, then at least once in a lifetime. (Abu Dawood and Tirmidhi)
Salat ul Tasbih consists of four rakats (units of prayer). It is divided into two separate sets of two rakats each.
This salah consists of four rakats performed at once. It can be offered at any time of the day or night, except during the Makrooh times of sunrise and sunset. However, best time to pray salat tasbeeh is before Dhuhr prayer.
The Tasbih to recite in Salat e Tasbeeh:
سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ وَلاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ
“Glory be to Allah, and all praise is due to Allah, and there is no deity except Allah, and Allah is the Greatest.”
In “The Way The Noble Messenger Offered His Prayer,” this method is stated:
1. Make the intention for 4 rak’ah salah.
2. Say “Allahu Akbar” and fold the hands together.
3. Recite Thana (Sana).
4. Recite the tasbih 15 times.
5. Recite ta’uwuz, tasmiyah, Surah Fatihah, and another surah.
6. Recite tasbih 10 times.
7. Go into ruku and recite “Subhana Rabiyal Azeem” 3 times.
8. Recite tasbih 10 times.
9. Rise from the bowing position and say “Rabana lakal hamd”.
10. Recite tasbih 10 times.
11. Do the Sajda and in the first sujood recite “Subhana Rabiyal A’ala” 3 times.
12. Recite tasbih 10 times.
13. Rise from Sajda into the sitting position.
14. Recite tasbih 10 times.
15. Do the second Sajda and recite “Subhana Rabiyal A’ala” 3 times.
16. Recite tasbih 10 times.
17. Stand up and recite the tasbih 15 times before Surah Fatihah.
Repeat the tasbih in the stated postures for the second, third, and fourth rak’ah. After finishing all four rakats, recite the Tashahhud and conclude your Salatul Tasbeeh with the final salutations (salam). We recite the Tasbeeh 75 times in one rakat. The same steps are followed in the second, third, and fourth rakats. In total, we complete 300 recitations of Tasbeeh across all four rakats.
Following are the Salatul Tasbeeh benefits and rewards:
The Salatul Tasbeeh prayer helps in weighing the balance of good deeds in the afterlife, as Prophet Muhammad mentioned certain phrases that are easy to recite but heavy on the scales of good deeds.
Salat to Tasbeeh is believed to have the power to erase sins, including initial and final sins, old and new sins, unintentional and intentional sins, small and large sins, secret and overt sins, and other types of sins.
Reciting specific sentences during Salat u Tasbeeh is believed to help prevent diseases, including sadness, leprosy, common illnesses, spots, and paralysis due to brain hemorrhage, as indicated in a hadith.
