In a small village, there lived a poor woodcutter. He earned his living by cutting wood and selling it in the city. Despite his poverty, he was known for his honesty. Every day, he would venture into the forest out of habit. His axe, essential for his work, became his closest companion.One day, he went to the forest as usual to cut wood. While searching for firewood, he spotted a promising tree by a beautiful river. He began cutting the tree, but his axe slipped and fell into the river. Feeling helpless, he watched as the axe sank beneath the water. Without his axe, he had no means to continue his work. Overwhelmed with despair, the woodcutter started to cry.

Angel’s help for the woodcutter

Suddenly, something extraordinary occurred. Upon hearing the woodcutter’s cry, an Angel appeared. The Angel inquired about the reason for the woodcutter’s tears. The woodcutter explained his predicament to the Angel.Upon hearing the tale, the Angel reassured him, saying, “Stop crying; I will assist you.” With those words, the Angel plunged into the water. After a while, the Angel emerged from the water holding a golden axe. The Angel questioned the woodcutter,Is this your axe?. The woodcutter truthfully replied,No. Upon hearing this, the Angel dove into the water once more. When the Angel resurfaced, this time with a silver axe, he asked the woodcutter again,Is this your?. Again, the woodcutter honestly denied ownership. For the third time, the Angel came back holding an iron axe. The Angel asked, “Does this axe belong to you? With joy, the woodcutter confirmed, “Ye,yes this is my lost axe.

Reward of Honesty

The angel was impressed by his honesty. So, he gave him his iron axe. He also rewarded him with gold and silver axes because of his honesty.
