The Rewards of Umrah According to the Quran and Hadith

Nothing is more soothing for the soul than learning about the exceptional rewards of Umrah before you embark on the spiritual retreat. Learning about the rewards of Umrah according to the Quran and Hadith makes you want to forget about worldly matters and embark on the journey as soon as possible. Countless Muslims from around the globe embark on the spiritual journey to Makkah. And even those who can’t yearn to go there someday and yield countless rewards and blessings.

While performing an Umrah, you will leave your home to travel to please the Almighty. You will also be spending your wealth in His way and following the Almighty’s commands to show your devotion. Therefore, how can our Creator not reward you immensely for your dedication, time, and wealth? If you are one of the fortunate US Muslims who have already booked Umrah packages, you will soon get the golden opportunity to yield all the rewards and blessings. Let’s talk about these rewards according to the Quran and Hadith.

Rewards of Umrah in the Light of the Quran and Hadith

Expiation of Sins

Imagine getting all your past sins forgiven. As Muslims, we strive to ask for the forgiveness of the Almighty at all times, as we know that we sin intentionally and unintentionally. And being able to get rid of the burden of these sins is what every Muslim yearns for. Umrah gives you a chance to expiate your sins. It is one of the most significant rewards of this incredible pilgrimage. Holy Prophet (SAW) said:

“Whoever performs Umrah, his previous sins will be forgiven.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)

On another occasion, our beloved Prophet (SAW) said:

“Perform Hajj and Umrah consecutively, for they remove poverty and sins just as a furnace removes impurity from iron, gold, and silver.” (Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Sunan al-Nasa’i)

These Hadiths clearly state that Umrah is the ultimate source of forgiveness for all sins. Therefore, take this golden opportunity and return from your pilgrimage without the burden of your past sins.

Chance to Have Allah Almighty as Your Host

What can be better than being the guest of Allah Almighty? As Muslims, we believe that only those who go for Hajj and Umrah are the ones that the Almighty Himself invites. Therefore, this gives you the chance to experience what it is like to have the Creator of this entire universe as your host. It is truly a rewarding and overwhelming experience that is unmatched. Let’s look at a Hadith of the Prophet (SAW):

“The pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah are the guests of Allah. If they call upon Him, He answers them; if they seek His forgiveness, He forgives them.” (Sunan Ibn Majah)

In another Hadith, the Prophet (SAW) says:

“Hajj and Umrah pilgrims are the delegation of Allah; if they call upon Him, He answers them, and if they seek His forgiveness, He forgives them.” (Sunan Ibn Majah, Ibn Hibban)

Also, in the Holy Quran, Allah Almighty says:

“And complete the Hajj and Umrah for Allah…” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:196)

All this evidence from the Quran and Hadith shows us the significance of Umrah and being the guest of the Almighty.

Reward Equivalent to Performing Jihad

Jihad, one of the noblest acts in Isla, is unmatched in its rewards and significance. Surprisingly, if you perform an Umrah with pure intentions and follow all the rituals perfectly, you get the reward of performing Jihad. Here is a Hadith that will soothe your heart and make you more excited about your pilgrimage.

“Whoever leaves his home solely for Hajj or Umrah and he dies, nothing will be presented to him nor will he have any liability on the Day of Judgment and it will be said to him, enter into Jannah.” (Sunan al-Darimi, al-Bayhaqi’s Shu’ab al-Iman)

This same reward is promised to any believer who dies through Jihad.

Removal of Poverty

We have already mentioned a Hadith above states:

“Perform Hajj and Umrah consecutively, for they remove poverty and sins just as a furnace removes impurity from iron, gold, and silver.” (Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Sunan al-Nasa’i)

According to this Hadith, we are guaranteed freedom from poverty by performing the pilgrimage. How can we expect our Creator not to gift us wealth when we spend ours in His way to please Him? Therefore, there is no denying that you will be rid of all your financial worries after performing the pilgrimage.

Final Words

Muslims know that there is no act of worship as spiritually enlightening and faith-reviving as Hajj and Umrah. You can expect endless rewards and blessings from your Umrah because of the many soothing and enlightening Quranic and Hadith pieces of evidence. Allah Almighty in the Holy Quran says:

“Indeed, the first House [of worship] established for mankind was that at Bakkah [Mecca], blessed and a guidance for the worlds.” (Quran 3:96)

Therefore, we go to His home for guidance and to receive His utmost blessings. To experience this spiritual retreat and receive blessings soon, apply for an Umrah visa and start planning your pilgrimage. Devote yourself to gaining all the rewards and blessings that Umrah promises.
