Nadeem, likening his Olympic rivalry with Chopra to the intense Pakistan-India cricket clash, has highlighted the challenges of being a non-cricket athlete in Pakistan, where resources are limited. After finishing fifth in Tokyo, he claimed silver at last year’s world championships.

He set a new Olympic record with a throw of 92.97 meters, securing Pakistan’s first individual Olympic gold. Nadeem, aiming to surpass 95 meters, expressed his determination to continue improving.

Pakistan’s last Olympic medal was in 1992, won by the field hockey team.

Arshad’s achievement solidifies his status as arguably Pakistan’s greatest Olympian. Under the global spotlight, he fell to the ground in prostration after his victory, then proudly draped the Pakistani flag over his shoulders in celebration.

“It’s an incredible feeling to win Olympic gold,” Arshad said with a beaming smile to reporters afterward. “I’m grateful to Allah for rewarding my hard work and to everyone back home who prayed for me. I’ll strive to do even better next time.”
