Surah Quraysh (Arabic قريش) is the 106th chapter of the Quran. It consists of 4 verses, 17 words,and 73 letters. Surat Qureish is a Makki sura, and it is located in the 30th para (juz) of the Quran. The Quraish surah derives its name from the first verse, which mentions the word “Quraysh.” The surah quraish meaning is the Quraysh. The Quraysh, consisting of Arab clans, historically inhabited and governed the city of Mecca along with its Kaaba. The revelation of Surah e Quraish serves as a reminder to the Quraysh tribe of the numerous blessings bestowed upon them by Allah. Despite their awareness and familiarity with these blessings, they still engaged in the worship of other deities.

The story of Surah Quraish
The Quraysh tribe held significant sway over Mecca, standing as one of its most influential tribes. Allah, in His infinite mercy, endowed them with unique favors unparalleled among any other community. The revelation of this Surah aimed to jog their memory regarding these blessings and implore them to direct their worship solely towards Allah, the ultimate source of their prosperity. Umm Hani bint Abi Talib conveyed the Prophet’s statement, wherein he mentioned:
“Allah has bestowed upon the Quraish seven distinctive traits, unprecedented among any other community before them and unparalleled among any to come after them.”
These attributes include:
- Undertaking the guardianship of the Sacred House (al-Hijabah).
- Having one of them appointed to the position of Caliph (al-Khilafah).
- Being granted the gift of prophecy.
- Having someone among them tasked with providing water to pilgrims (al-Siqayah) during Hajj.
- Achieving victory over the elephant army (Al-Fil) that sought to destroy the Kaaba.
- Exclusively worshipping Allah SWT for seven consecutive years.
- The Surah was revealed specifically for them, with no mention of any other group.
Surah Quraish benefits

- The act of reading and reciting surah li ilafi quraysh brings forth numerous benefits bestowed by the power of Allah SWT.
- Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) stated that whoever recites Lilafi Quraish Surah will be rewarded tenfold for the number of individuals performing Tawaaf and I’tikaf.
- Recitation of Surah Quraysh 11 times after the Isha prayers serves as a means of relief from illness.
- When a child is frightened, recite Surah Quraish 41 times over water, then give it to them, and their fears will dissipate.
- Surah Quraysh benefits for weight loss are a widely spread false assertion. Allah (SWT) has honored the Quran and ordained it as guidance for humanity. Moreover, there are no authentic hadiths or verses in the Quran that support such a claim.
- Reciting Surat al-Feel and Surat al-Quraish during obligatory prayers brings significant rewards. Recitation of Surah Quraish after food has the power to nullify any negative effects it may have.
- Abul Hasan Qazwini and Imam Jazri recommend reciting surah quraish for enemy and gaining security from fear and calamity. This practice has been tested and proven effective in providing protection against enemies and adversities.
- Imam as-Sadiq states that ”regularly reciting Surat al Quraish leads to divine rewards on the Day of Resurrection, including elevation, a mount from Paradise, and a magnificent throne.”
- Molana Ashraf Ali Thanvi recommends reciting li ilafi qureysh surah and blowing it on food to alleviate kidney pain through divine intervention.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
لِإِيلَٰفِ قُرَيْشٍ(1)إِۦلَٰفِهِمْ رِحْلَةَ ٱلشِّتَآءِ وَٱلصَّيْفِ(2)فَلْيَعْبُدُوا۟ رَبَّ هَٰذَا ٱلْبَيْتِ(3)ٱلَّذِىٓ أَطْعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعٍ وَءَامَنَهُم مِّنْ خَوْفٍۭ(4)
Surah Quraish transliteration
Surah quraysh in English is:
Bismillahir rahman nir raheem
Li-elaafi quraysh
Eelaafihim rihlatash shitaa’i wassaif
Fal y’abudoo rabba hazal-baiyt
Allazee at’amahum min joo’inw-wa-aamanahum min khauf
Translation of Surah Quraish
”Due to familiarity with Quraish. Due to accustoming them to travel in summer and winter. So they should worship the Lord of that house. Who gave them food in their hunger and gave them peace from fear.”

What is surah quraish about?
Allah bestowed numerous blessings upon the Quraish, including protection from fear and hunger, as well as bestowing them with dignity and a prominent status among the Arabian tribes. However, they neglected these gifts and turned to idol worship instead of acknowledging Allah’s singular divinity.
Therefore, quraysh surah serves as a reminder and encouragement for them to recall their blessings and reorient themselves towards worshipping Allah, the sole deity deserving of reverence.

There’s no specific surah quraish ka wazifa for hajat or for rizq , its recitation with sincerity and devotion can indeed invoke Allah’s mercy and assistance in times of need. Muslims often turn to Surat Quraysh in their prayers, seeking Allah’s favor and blessings, trusting in His infinite wisdom and compassion to fulfill their desires and alleviate their difficulties.
The al quraish sura was revealed in Mecca prior to the migration of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.
