Fussilat is the 41st chapter of the Quran. It consists of 6 Rukus, 54 verses, 794 words, and 3365 letters. It is a Meccan surah, and it opens with the Muqqat’at letters حٰمٓ. Surah Ha Mim Sajdah is another name for Surah Fussilat, and it is located in 24th and 25th paras (Juz) of the Quran. This Surah’s title consists of “Ha-Mim” and “As-Sajdah,” indicating it starts with Ha-Mim and includes a verse prompting prostration. In Surat Fussilat, those who deny the Quran and Allah Almighty are cautioned that their own bodies will bear witness against them on the Day of Judgment, leading them to eternal damnation in Hell. The mention of the obliteration of the proud and ungrateful nations of ‘Âd and Thamûd is significant, as it serves as a reminder to the pagan Arabs who passed by their ruins en route to Syria and Yemen. Verses 30-36 provide a profound portrayal of the righteous.

Following are the virtues and benefits of reciting Surat Ha Mim Sajdah:
“Everything has its own fruit and benefits, and the fruit of the Qur’an is Ha-Meem (another name for Fussilat Surah). Chapters that begin with Ha-Meem are like beautiful, fresh, fragrant, and splendid meadows. Whoever wishes to stroll through the meadows of Paradise should recite these surahs.”
The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) would not go to sleep without reciting Surat Tabaraka Allathee (Surat Al-Mulk, Chapter 67) and Surah Ha Mim as Sajdah (Surah al fussilat, Chapter 41).
Surat Fussilat (verses 30, 31, and 33) highlight the divine reassurance and ultimate rewards for the steadfast believers. Those who declare, “Our Lord is Allah” and remain firm in their faith are blessed with the descent of angels who bring them the comforting message to not fear or grieve, but rather rejoice in the promise of Paradise (Surah Fussilat ayat 30).
The angels further assure the believers of their companionship and support both in this worldly life and the Hereafter. In Paradise, the believers will be granted everything they desire and ask for as a gracious hospitality from the Merciful Lord (Surah Fussilat ayat 31).
Furthermore, the excellence of those who call others to Allah, perform righteous deeds, and proudly declare themselves as Muslims is emphasized, underscoring the importance and high status of dawah and righteous living (Quran Surah Fussilat ayat 33).
These verses collectively convey the themes of divine support, the promise of eternal bliss in Paradise, and the virtue of inviting others to the path of Allah.
