Surah al Tahrim (Arabic: سُورَةُ الـَّحرِيم) english meaning” The Prohibition” is the 66th surah of the Glorious Quran. The name taken from verse 1 where there is the mention of the word ”Tuharram”. This surat is found in 28th para of the Quran. It consist of 12 ayats (verses) and revealed in the Holy city of Madina.
This Surah is of paramount importance as it addresses several significant issues, particularly by referencing certain incidents involving the wives of the Holy Prophet (upon whom be Allah’s peace).

اَیُّهَا الَّذِیْنَ اٰمَنُوْا قُوْۤا اَنْفُسَكُمْ وَ اَهْلِیْكُمْ نَارًا وَّ قُوْدُهَا النَّاسُ وَ الْحِجَارَةُ عَلَیْهَا مَلٰٓىٕكَةٌ غِلَاظٌ شِدَادٌ لَّا یَعْصُوْنَ اللّٰهَ مَاۤ اَمَرَهُمْ وَ یَفْعَلُوْنَ مَا یُؤْمَرُوْنَ(6)
O you who have faith! Save yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel will be people and stones, over which are [assigned] severe and mighty angels, who do not disobey whatever Allah commands them and carry out what they are commanded.
This verse speaks to all Muslims, urging them to protect themselves and their loved ones from the blazing fires of Hell, fueled by people and stones. It vividly portrays the terrifying intensity of Hell, describing its guardians, known as Zabaniah, as relentless and formidable. No inhabitant of Hell will be able to escape their grasp through force, strength, persuasion, or bribery.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ تُوبُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ تَوْبَةًۭ نَّصُوحًا عَسَىٰ رَبُّكُمْ أَن يُكَفِّرَ عَنكُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمْ وَيُدْخِلَكُمْ جَنَّـٰتٍۢ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ يَوْمَ لَا يُخْزِى ٱللَّهُ ٱلنَّبِىَّ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَعَهُۥ ۖ نُورُهُمْ يَسْعَىٰ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَبِأَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَآ أَتْمِمْ لَنَا نُورَنَا وَٱغْفِرْ لَنَآ ۖ إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ قَدِيرٌۭ ٨
O believers! Turn to Allah in sincere repentance, so your Lord may absolve you of your sins and admit you into Gardens, under which rivers flow, on the Day Allah will not disgrace the Prophet or the believers with him. Their light will shine ahead of them and on their right. They will say, “Our Lord! Perfect our light for us, and forgive us. ˹For˺ You are truly Most Capable of everything.”
Previous verses discussed Hellfire, while the current one emphasizes seeking cure through sincere repentance. It urges believers to turn to God genuinely, avoiding despair. True repentance involves regret for past sins, a commitment to avoid them in the future, and also making amends for any harm caused.
Message of Hope and Forgiveness: It emphasizes that regardless of the severity of one’s mistakes, Allah is capable of forgiveness. This brings hope to those burdened by guilt and serves as a reminder for everyone to continually seek Allah’s forgiveness. Furthermore, it serves as a beacon of hope, illuminating the fact that Allah never rejects a sincere apology.
The Importance of Guarding One’s Tongue: The surah emphasizes the impact of words, warning against the dangers of careless speech like spreading rumors or false accusations. It promotes speaking truthfully and kindly, urging believers to be mindful of how their words affect others. Serving as a guide for moral conduct, it encourages using words to build trust and unity in the community.
The Severe Results of Defiance: It reminds us sharply that worldly pleasures are temporary, and our actions have everlasting consequences. The surah encourages believers to walk the path of righteousness, always considering the Hereafter.
