As-Sajdah (Arabic: السجدة) is the 32nd chapter of the Quran. It consists of 3 Rukus, or 30 verses. 372 words and 1523 letters. Surah Sajdah is a Makki surah and also known as Alif Lam Mim Tanzil. It takes its name Sajdah from the 15th verse because within this surat mandates a prostration (sajdah) when recited or heard. Surah Sajdah meaning The Prostration, and this chapter is open with Muqatta’at letters الم. In its initial portion, the chapter delves into several fundamental theological concepts of Islam, such as revelation, the nature of God, the creation of humanity, the resurrection, and the Day of Judgment. The 2nd part discusses the distinction between those who submit themselves to God’s will by prostrating and those who reject His signs by turning away. Subsequently, the chapter illustrates the Children of Israel as an exemplar of those who adhere to God’s guidance as conveyed through Moses.

Summary of Surah As Sajdah ayat 1 30

Surat as Sajdah discusses various significant Quranic themes and subjects:

  1. The Quran is definitely a message sent to warn people who haven’t heard any warnings before.
  2. Resurrection (ma‘ād: مَعاد).
  3. Creation of the heavens and the earth in six days.
  4. Creation of man from clay.
  5. It warns the deniers of the Day of Judgment (Qiyamah) about severe punishment.
  6. On the Day of Judgment, those who disbelieved will believe, but their belief won’t help them.
  7. It also provides the believers in Allah, the Prophet, and the Day of Judgment with the good news of unimaginable rewards.
  8. Those who leave their beds to pray to their Lord with both fear and hope, and who give to charity, will receive a special reward.

Surah Sajdah benefits

Following are rewards and benefits of surah sajdah:

  • The Prophet Muhammad said: Whoever recites Surah As-Sajdah, it’s like they spent the Night of Qadr in worship.
  • Abu Abdullah Ja‘far ibn Muhammad stated, “Anyone who recites as Sajdah Surah on Friday evenings, Allah will grant him his book of deeds in his right hand. He will not be held accountable, and Allah will elevate him to become companions of the Noble Prophet and his household.”
  • The Prophet said, “If someone writes down Surah Sajdah and keeps it with himself, he will be protected from fever, headaches, and joint pain.”
  • Musaib ibn Rafi’ recounted that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned that on the Day of Resurrection, Surah As-Sajdah will manifest with two wings, offering shade to the one who recited it. Moreover, the Surah will intercede, pleading, “Let no harm befall him! Let no harm befall him!”
  • Hazrat Ka’ab reported that whoever recites Surah e Sajdah and Surah Al-Mulk during the night will have seventy good deeds inscribed for him, seventy sins forgiven, and his status elevated by seventy degrees.
  • Hazrat Aisha relayed that whoever recites Surah As-Sajdah, Surat Yaseen, Surat Al-Qamar, and Surat Al-Mulk will find them as a source of light and protection from evil, with their status elevated until the Day of Resurrection.

The Significance of Verses 16, 17, and 18 in Surah Sajdah

Surah sajdah ayat 16 and 18 of Surah Sajdah are among the most famous verses of the chapter. Verse 16 addresses those who engages in night prayer (Salāt al-Layl: سلاةُ اللَّيل). Abu Ja’far Muhammad bin Ali said that this verse is in honor of Ali Ibn Abi Talib and his followers. Who sleep until a third of the night has passed, then wake up with fear and hope and turn to Allah. Live restlessly. to obey him.

تَتَجَافٰى جُنُوْبُهُمْ عَنِ الْمَضَاجِـعِ یَدْعُوْنَ رَبَّهُمْ خَوْفًا وَّ طَمَعًا٘-وَّ مِمَّا رَزَقْنٰهُمْ یُنْفِقُوْنَ(16)

Unseen Rewards of true believers

فَلَا تَعْلَمُ نَفْسٌ مَّاۤ اُخْفِیَ لَهُمْ مِّنْ قُرَّةِ اَعْیُنٍۚ-جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوْا یَعْمَلُوْنَ(17)

According to most commentators, this verse was a response to an incident involving Walid ibn Mughirah taunting Ali ibn Abi Talib, boasting, “My tongue is more articulate and my teeth sharper than yours,” implying his superiority over Ali. Ali refuted this claim, prompting Allah to reveal Surah Sajdah ayat 18 to the Prophet.

اَفَمَنْ كَانَ مُؤْمِنًا كَمَنْ كَانَ فَاسِقًا لَا یَسْتَوٗنَ(18)
