Ar Rum (Arabic: الروم) is the 30th chapter of the Quran. It consists of 6 Rukus, 60 verses, 820 words, and 3472 letters. Surah Room is a Makki surah, and it opens with Muqatta’at letters الم. The Surah is named Ar-Rum due to the presence of the word “ghulibat-ir-Rum” in its second verse. Surah rum means The Byzantines or The Greeks. Al Room Surah was revealed in 615 A.D. It coincided with the Romans being defeated by the Persians. It was revealed during the Prophet’s stay in Makkah. In the same year, the Prophet allowed persecuted Muslims to migrate to Habsha.

- The Makkans interpreted the Romans’ (Christians’) loss to the Persians (pagans) as a bad omen, equating it with the potential defeat of Muslims by the Arab unbelievers.
- The prediction of the Romans’ triumph over the Persians and the Muslims’ success against the disbelievers.
- Surah Room ayat 10 discribes that Allah is the creator of all existence and will bring the dead back to life for the ultimate judgment.
- The creation of humanity, their partners, the heavens, the earth, languages, colors, sleep, the pursuit of livelihood, lightning, rain, and the growth of vegetation are all indications of Allah’s signs.

Surah Rum benefits
Following are the virtues and benefits of reciting Surat Rum:
- According to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) : “Whoever recites Surah Ar-Rum will receive a reward equivalent to ten times the number of angels who praise Allah between the heavens and the earth. Additionally, any losses incurred during that day and night will be compensated.”
- The one who recites Surah Al Room will be rewarded tenfold compared to the number of angels perpetually glorifying Allah.
- In a tradition,Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (may Allah be pleased with him) stated: “Whoever recites Surahs Ankabut and Surah al Rum on the 23rd night of Ramadan, by Allah, they will be granted entry into Paradise, and I do not make any exceptions to this statement… (provided they fulfill their religious obligations). These two Surahs hold a significant position with Allah.”

Quran Surah ar Rum 21 verse emphasizes the divine wisdom behind creating mates from among ourselves, fostering tranquility, love, and mercy in relationships. Reflecting on this verse reminds believers of the blessings of companionship and the importance of nurturing love and compassion in their relationships. In Surah e Room this verse shows that in marriage, the main goal is to have peace and feel comfortable. Couples who have this are successful in marriage. But if a family doesn’t have peace and feels troubled, then they aren’t successful in their marriage.
وَ مِنْ اٰیٰتِهٖۤ اَنْ خَلَقَ لَكُمْ مِّنْ اَنْفُسِكُمْ اَزْوَاجًا لِّتَسْكُنُوْۤا اِلَیْهَا وَ جَعَلَ بَیْنَكُمْ مَّوَدَّةً وَّ رَحْمَةًؕ-اِنَّ فِیْ ذٰلِكَ لَاٰیٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ یَّتَفَكَّرُوْنَ(21)
Surah Rum ayat 30 benefits
So, set your face toward the religion, inclining to truth. [Adhere to] the natural inclination upon which Allah has created [all] people. No change should there be in the creation of Allah. That is the correct religion, but most of the people do not know. Surah ar Rum ayat 30 emphasizes the importance of adhering to the straight path of obedience to Allah, following the innate nature upon which He has created humanity. It highlights the purity and simplicity of the true religion, which remains unchanged despite the ignorance of many people.
فَاَقِمْ وَجْهَكَ لِلدِّیْنِ حَنِیْفًاؕ-فِطْرَتَ اللّٰهِ الَّتِیْ فَطَرَ النَّاسَ عَلَیْهَاؕ-لَا تَبْدِیْلَ لِخَلْقِ اللّٰهِؕ-ذٰلِكَ الدِّیْنُ الْقَیِّمُۗۙ-وَ لٰـكِنَّ اَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا یَعْلَمُوْنَ(30)

اَللّٰهُ الَّذِیْ خَلَقَكُمْ مِّنْ ضُؔعْفٍ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِنْۢ بَعْدِ ضُؔعْفٍ قُوَّةً ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِنْۢ بَعْدِ قُوَّةٍ ضُؔعْفًا وَّ شَیْبَةًؕ-یَخْلُقُ مَا یَشَآءُۚ-وَ هُوَ الْعَلِیْمُ الْقَدِیْرُ(54)
