Sūrah an-Nūr (النور) is the 24th chapter of the Quran. It contains 9 rukus,64 verses, 1381 words, and 5755 letters. Surah nur is a Madni surat, and it is located in the 18th para of the Quran.Meaning of surah nur is The Light. Surat discusses laws pertaining to interpersonal and familial relationships. The verses 2 -8 of this Sureh are known as Ayat al-Ahkam or legal verses. The Surah also covers the rules regarding the hijab, relationships between men and women, and the topic of fornication and its punishment. Surah Al-Nur discusses a variety of topics, including marriage, the requirements for marriage, and family laws.To the people of Kūfah, Umer bin al-Khaṭṭāb wrote, “Teach your women Sūrah al-Noor.”Hazrat Imam Sadiq says, “Read Sura An-Nur every day and night to protect your property and maintain your chastity. By following its commandments, you can immunize your own wives against deviations”.

Quran Surah Noor summary

1. In Surah Noor ayat 2 describes Law (Had e Zina) concerning adultery.
2. Penalties (Had e Qazaf) for disparaging noble women.Those who falsely accuse virtuous women will cursed forever.
3. Law (Lian) pertaining to allegations of adultery made against a wife by her husband.
4. People who defamed Hazrat Aisha were chastised and punished.Allah warned believers not to commit evil deeds.
5. The wealthy should pardon the underprivileged and show them kindness.
6. Malevolent persons destined for each other. And virtuous men and women for one another. They will receive pardons and a worthy reward.
7. Ethics to be observed when visiting each other’s home.
8. Allah’s command about marriage for unmarried people.Servant men and women are included in this.Exhortation to unmarried Muslims to maintain their innocence.
9. In Surah noor ayat 33 describes Allah’s mandate to assist enslaved people in obtaining their freedom.
10. The surat describes The similarty of God’s light.
11. Dipiction of the conduct of devoted believers. In surah noor ayat 40, compares disbeliever to a stormy sea’s darkness or a desert mirage.
12. Hypocrites chastised and forewarned.
13. An exception for sick, blind, and older women in the regard of parda.
14. Command to make slaam to muslims to each other.
15. True believers should unconditionally obey God’s apostle.

Benefits of Surah Noor

There are many virtues and lessons from Surah Noor. Some of them are here:

• Noor ul iman surah is a guide for women in order to make them safe from an evil eye. Hazrat Ayesha remarked, “May Allah have mercy on the foremost  women of the Muhajirun,”. They cut their sheets and covered themselves with them when Allah revealed the verse, “Let them draw their cloaks over their bodies” (24:31).
• Furthermore,Surah Noor recitation protects the reciter‘s children`s chastity and innocence.
• Seventy thousand angels will carry the reciter of surat al nur to the grave at his death. And they will keep on praying for his pardon.
• It is stated that “Whoever recites sureh an nur, God will give him rewards ten times more than the number of all believers men and women in the past and in the future”.
• Hazrat Imam Sadaq stated, “Read noor surah every day and night to protect your property and maintain your chastity. By following its commandments, you can immunize your wives against deviations. Whoever does this will ensure that no one in his family will engage in indecency for as long as he lives.”
• Our Prophet (PBUH) also tells us that one of a daughter’s rights is for her father to educate her surah e noor.
• An nur surah for beauty and regarding skin issues is really beneficial.
• Moreover,Hazrat Imam Ali commanded, “teach Quran surat noor to your women in which there is good advice.”

Story of Ifk

Surah noor ayat 11 to surah noor ayat 26 are about the waqia ifak.These verses mention how a group of hypocrites accused Hazrat Ayesha. Ayesha once travelled in a caravan with Prophet Muhammad,the Messenger of Allah, while on a campaign. During this journey, she unintentionally drifted away from the caravan and found herself trapped in the desert. When Safwan bin Muattal arrived at the same location as her he noticed that she was lost . He brought his camel and had it kneel, allowing her to mount it.After that, he led the camel till they reached the troops.

This sparked not just mistrust but also accusations against them.This accusations were mostly disseminated by the head of the hypocrites Abdullah bin Ubayy bin Salul.He was leading the charge in their dissemination . He made up the story and whispered it to others, and eventually, some Muslims began to believe it and express their misgivings. But within a short period, Allah revealed verses to Hazrat Muhammed (pbuh) to record the innocence of Hazrat Aisha. In these verses, Allah also revealed the punishment of accusers.

Surah Noor hijab ayat

The command of Allah in regard of parda is describe in surah noor ayat 30 and surah noor ayat 31. Theses verses shows Women are ordered to veil, and men are also ordered to keep their eyes down and protect their innocence. Surah nur 31 verse is:

وَقُل لِّلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ يَغْضُضْنَ مِنْ أَبْصَـٰرِهِنَّ وَيَحْفَظْنَ فُرُوجَهُنَّ وَلَا يُبْدِينَ زِينَتَهُنَّ إِلَّا مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا ۖ وَلْيَضْرِبْنَ بِخُمُرِهِنَّ عَلَىٰ جُيُوبِهِنَّ ۖ وَلَا يُبْدِينَ زِينَتَهُنَّ إِلَّا لِبُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ ءَابَآئِهِنَّ أَوْ ءَابَآءِ بُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ أَبْنَآئِهِنَّ أَوْ أَبْنَآءِ بُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ إِخْوَٰنِهِنَّ أَوْ بَنِىٓ إِخْوَٰنِهِنَّ أَوْ بَنِىٓ أَخَوَٰتِهِنَّ أَوْ نِسَآئِهِنَّ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُنَّ أَوِ ٱلتَّـٰبِعِينَ غَيْرِ أُو۟لِى ٱلْإِرْبَةِ مِنَ ٱلرِّجَالِ أَوِ ٱلطِّفْلِ ٱلَّذِينَ لَمْ يَظْهَرُوا۟ عَلَىٰ عَوْرَٰتِ ٱلنِّسَآءِ ۖ وَلَا يَضْرِبْنَ بِأَرْجُلِهِنَّ لِيُعْلَمَ مَا يُخْفِينَ مِن زِينَتِهِنَّ ۚ وَتُوبُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ جَمِيعًا أَيُّهَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ

(The Light) Surah Nur ayat 35

Surah noor ayat 35 in English is  ”God is the light of the heavens and the earth. The likeness of His light is like a niche in which is a lamp. The lamp is in a glass. The glass is as if it were a sparkling star lit from a blessed tree. A blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost shine even if no fire touched it. Light upon light. God guides to His light whomsoever He wills. And God sets examples for people. ۗ And God is All-Knowing of all things”.
