Surah Al Qadr ( Arabic: ٱلْقَدْرِ) is the 97th chapter of the Holy Quran. Surah al qadr meaning in English is “The Power,fate”. The name of it was derived from “Laylatul Qadr”, the first verse of the surah al qadar. (Ayat 1), ”إِنَّآ أَنزَلۡنَٰهُ فِي لَيۡلَةِ ٱلۡقَدۡرِ” (Indeed, We sent the Qur’an down during the Night of Decree.) where the word ‘’ ٱلۡقَدۡرِ’’meaning decree appears. Allah Almighty revealed this Surah consisting of 5 verses in the Holy city of Mecca during the month of Ramadan. It refers to the revelation of the Holy Qur’an on the Night of Honour. People also refer to this surah as Laylatul Qadr, which signifies the night of power.

Laylatul Qadr refers to the Night of Honour, the first night of the Quran Revelation, which is a night of glorification, honor, and majesty. This Surah describes the significance of this night and the blessings associated with it. The night is better than 1000 months. As Muslims, we believe Night of Power is on odd-numbered nights during last 10 days of Ramadan. It’ is important as mentioned in Qur’an by Allah. “Indeed, We sent the Quran down during the Night of Decree. And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.” [Quran 97:1-5]
