Al-Ma’idah (Arabic: ٱلْمَائدَة) is the 5th chapter (surah) of the Quran. It contains 16 Rukus, 120 verses, 2837 words, and 12206 letters. Surah al Maidah, meaning in English, is The table or The table spread with food. Surat Maida is a Madinan sura, and it is located in 11 to 13 paras of the Quran Kareem. Another name for al Maidah Surah is The Feast. The name Maidah comes from the story of Jesus’ disciples, who prayed for Allah to send them a table full of food from the sky for his followers. They desired to partake in it, demonstrating the truthfulness of their prophet. This chapter discusses many important ideas and rules. One of the most significant topics it covers is the concept of “wilayah,” which means the guardianship of Allah, His Prophet, and the person who gave zakat while bowing down in prayer, like Ali.

- Abu Ja‘far Muhammad ibn Ali stated, “Whoever recites surah al-maidah every Thursday will find their faith shielded from injustice and wrongdoing, and they will not associate anyone with their Lord.”
- Abu Abdullah Ja‘far ibn Muhammad said, “If you write Surah al Maidah full of belief, honesty, and focus on Allah and its meanings and keep it in a chest at home, nothing inside it will get stolen.”
Significance of surat al maidah ayat 2

مِنْ اَجْلِ ذٰلِكَ كَتَبْنَا عَلٰى بَنِیْۤ اِسْرَآءِیْلَ اَنَّهٗ مَنْ قَتَلَ نَفْسًۢا بِغَیْرِ نَفْسٍ اَوْ فَسَادٍ فِی الْاَرْضِ فَكَاَنَّمَا قَتَلَ النَّاسَ جَمِیْعًاؕ-وَ مَنْ اَحْیَاهَا فَكَاَنَّمَاۤ اَحْیَا النَّاسَ جَمِیْعًاؕ-وَ لَقَدْ جَآءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُنَا بِالْبَیِّنٰتِ٘-ثُمَّ اِنَّ كَثِیْرًا مِّنْهُمْ بَعْدَ ذٰلِكَ فِی الْاَرْضِ لَمُسْرِفُوْنَ(32)
The Divine Banquet (Table of food)
The Quran Surah al Maidah ayat 114 is about a supplication made by Prophet Jesus (عيسى بن مريم) requesting Allah to send down a divine banquet (مائدہ) from the heavens. He asks for this feast to serve as a sign of God’s blessings and provisions for humanity, highlighting trust in God’s sustenance and mercy.
”Jesus, son of Mary, said: O God, our Lord, send down to us a gift from heaven that will be a feast for us, for the first of us and the last of us, and a gift from You. -And provide for us, and You are the best of providers.’
