Al Hashr (Arabic: الحشر) is the 59th chapter of the Quran. It consists of 3 Rukus, 24 verses, 445 words, and 1913 letters. Surah Al Hashr meaning is The Exile. This Madni chapter is named Al-Hashr because the word “hashr” appears in verse 2. It refers to the expulsion of the Jewish Banu Nadir tribe from their settlements. Sura Al-Hashr also addresses how Muslims should manage the wealth they acquired without battle. Additionally, it discusses the hypocrites and their betrayal of the People of the Book. Lastly, Surat Hashr describes Allah’s attributes and His Most Beautiful Names.

  • According to a narration from the Noble Prophet, whoever places his hand on his head and recites the last three verses of Surah Al-Hashr will be healed from all ailments except death.
  • Abu Abdullah Ja‘far ibn Muhammad said, “Whoever writes Surah e Hashr, washes it with clean water, and then drinks from that water, will attain an excellent memory and great intelligence.”
  • Ali ibn Abi Talib has said that the last verses of Surah Hashr are a cure for headache.
  • According to a narration from the Prophet (s), whoever recites Surat Al-Hashr will receive blessings and prayers from Paradise and Hell, the Throne (‘Arsh) and Chair (Kursiyy), its curtains, the seven heavens and the seven earths, the wind, birds, trees, mountains, the sun, the moon, and the angels. They will seek forgiveness and pardon for them, and if the person passes away on that day or night, they will be considered a martyr.
  • Imam al-Sadiq (a) also narrated that whoever recites Surah Rahman and Surah Al Hashr complete during the evening, Allah will send an angel to protect them until morning.
