The Role of Sunnah in Daily Life

To begin, try these 6 easy Sunnah practices.

  • Using miskwak/Using of siwak
  • Following the 1/3 rule while eating
  • Practicing hijama (cupping)
  • Greeting with “Salam” or reciting “Bismillah” before stepping into a house
  • Wearing Clothes
  • Going out and coming back home

It is reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would use Siwak upon waking.

Teeth are sensitive, and problems with them can lead to significant pain. This Sunnah provides preventative measures against issues that could keep you bedridden for days.

Abu Hurairah raḍyAllāhu ‘anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him) reported that Allah’s Messenger ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Had it not been for the difficulty it would impose on my followers, I would have commanded them to use the siwak before every prayer.” [Tirmidhi]

We eat and drink daily as it is essential for our survival, but are we doing it the right way? The Prophet S.A.W. taught us Muslims to fill our stomachs in three parts. One-third with food, one-third with water, and the last third with air.

The Prophet ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings be upon him) regularly practiced cupping. This form of treatment has been used historically across various countries.

Cupping offers numerous benefits, such as detoxifying the blood. Research has demonstrated its effectiveness in treating migraines, fertility issues, and joint pain.

The Prophet ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “If there is any healing in your treatments, it is in cupping, a sip of honey, or cauterization with fire, though I prefer to avoid cauterization.” [Bukhari]

The Messenger of Allah ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said:

“When a person mentions the Name of Allah upon entering their home or eating, Satan says to his followers, ‘You have no place to stay and no meal here.’ But if they enter without mentioning the Name of Allah, Satan tells his followers, ‘You’ve found a place to stay,’ and if they don’t mention Allah’s Name when eating, Satan adds, ‘And you’ve also found food.’” [Muslim]
