The Sunnah benefits us not only by offering rewards but also by shielding us from the challenges and influences of these end-times that could lead us astray. In our daily lives, we face numerous uncertainties and dilemmas about what is right and wrong; the Sunnah of the Prophet (S.A.W) serves as one of the most powerful defenses we have against them.
Malik b. Anas, in a mursal form, narrated that the Messenger of God said, “As long as you hold firmly to two things I have left among you—God’s Book and the Sunnah of His Messenger—you will not be led astray.” (Hasan, Al-Albani)
In this article, we will explore the authentic Sunnahs of the Prophet (S.A.W.) that are simple for our daily lives. Such as those related to waking up, performing ablution, and more. By reviving and practicing these Sunnahs, we can earn Allah’s love, fulfill our religious obligations, protect ourselves from innovation in religion, and uphold essential religious practices.
To begin, try these 6 easy Sunnah practices.
- Using miskwak/Using of siwak
- Following the 1/3 rule while eating
- Practicing hijama (cupping)
- Greeting with “Salam” or reciting “Bismillah” before stepping into a house
- Wearing Clothes
- Going out and coming back home
Using miskwak/Using of siwak
Siwak, derived from the Salvadora persica tree, possesses numerous antibacterial properties, making it an excellent tool for maintaining oral hygiene.
It is reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would use Siwak upon waking.
Teeth are sensitive, and problems with them can lead to significant pain. This Sunnah provides preventative measures against issues that could keep you bedridden for days.
Abu Hurairah raḍyAllāhu ‘anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him) reported that Allah’s Messenger ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Had it not been for the difficulty it would impose on my followers, I would have commanded them to use the siwak before every prayer.” [Tirmidhi]
Following the 1/3 rule while eating
We eat and drink daily as it is essential for our survival, but are we doing it the right way? The Prophet S.A.W. taught us Muslims to fill our stomachs in three parts. One-third with food, one-third with water, and the last third with air.
Doing hijama (cupping)
The Prophet ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings be upon him) regularly practiced cupping. This form of treatment has been used historically across various countries.
Cupping offers numerous benefits, such as detoxifying the blood. Research has demonstrated its effectiveness in treating migraines, fertility issues, and joint pain.
The Prophet ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “If there is any healing in your treatments, it is in cupping, a sip of honey, or cauterization with fire, though I prefer to avoid cauterization.” [Bukhari]
Greeting with “Salam” or reciting “Bismillah” before stepping into a house
The Messenger of Allah ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said:
“When a person mentions the Name of Allah upon entering their home or eating, Satan says to his followers, ‘You have no place to stay and no meal here.’ But if they enter without mentioning the Name of Allah, Satan tells his followers, ‘You’ve found a place to stay,’ and if they don’t mention Allah’s Name when eating, Satan adds, ‘And you’ve also found food.’” [Muslim]
